Our aim for coding fortnight is to instill a passion and appreciation for how coding and technology play a part in a range of diverse careers.
The fortnight of activities will involve all KS1 and KS2 children and pay particular focus to military children of which we have 45%.
Children will explore how technology is used in sport, manufacturing, food, finance, health, science, music, tourism and retail.
They will explore wearable sporting tech and use the microbits to create their own step counters and motion sensors. We aim to organise a workshop with the local Bath rugby club.
Children will explore how bar codes and scanners in supermarkets make shopping more efficient and will complete bar code analysis activities. A trip to Tesco in Chippenham will support learners to analyse the use of technology in a supermarket.
Children will explore and understand the process of automated parcel delivery from order through to arrival of goods and the different stages e.g. Amazon Lockers.
The microbits will be used to collect data in cross curricular science as data logging and traffic surveys.
Children will see a demonstration of a 3D printer and how it can be used in range of industries.
Within tourism and transport, children will explore how augmented reality apps support tourists to explore locations. They will understand the role of technology in transport vehicles. Children will programme microbits and kitronik robots to move through mazes and around obstacles.
Amazon Career tours and Fulfillment workshop and TechSheCan champions.
Finally, through our links with the military, we shall involve the children in workshops and activities to learn about how the military use technology across a wide range of areas.
