1. The event consists of two workshops:
GAME DESIGN
In this workshop, learners will use their gaming experience and imagination todevelop their very own unique game. This course will take them through all the steps that real Game Developers use to create games. From designing characters to adding backgrounds, leaners will use game development software to develop a 2D game.
ROBOT RIVALS
Learners work in teams to code a robot, completing a range of challenges such as; robot art, cops and robbers car chase, robot racing, automated / self driving car challenge and robot maze solver! This workshop uses visual coding skills as well as introducing you to python programming which is actually used by people who code for a job when they’re older. A superb workshop to get children to understand coding and the future possibilities this awesome skill has for them.
2. Game Design Workshop:
Methods: Interactive, hands-on learning where learners actively participate in designing and developing their own games.
Resources: Game development software, computers, and visual aids for character and background design.
Robot Rivals Workshop:
Methods: Team-based challenges that promote collaboration and problem-solving. The use of visual coding interfaces alongside introductory Python programming ensures a gradual and comprehensive learning curve.
Resources:Robots, coding software (including visual coding tools and Python), computers, and materials for various coding challenges.
3. To introduce learners to the fundamentals of game design and development, enhancing their creativity and technical skills.
To teach learners coding and robotics in an engaging and practical way, fostering teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
To inspire interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields by providing hands-on, fun, and educational experiences.
To provide a foundation in programming that can be built upon in future educational pursuits.
4. The target group for this event is Year 3 and Year 4:
5. Relevance: The content is tailored to the interests of young children, leveraging their natural curiosity and enthusiasm for games and robots.
Hands-On Learning: The workshops are interactive and engaging, allowing children to learn by doing, which is an effective method for this age group.
Skill Development: Children gain practical skills in game design and coding, which are valuable for their future education and potential careers in STEM fields.
