Music Lab - Create music with code

Unlock your students' musical creativity with Code.org’s Music Lab tutorial which combines the joy of music with the principles of coding.

To support teachers and event organizers, the online lesson includes a detailed lesson plan that provides teachers with instructions on how to lead an engaging and pedagogically sound session.

Once familiar with the Music Lab environment, students can transition to the Lab's open play space to create their own musical composition based on their interests or criteria defined by the teacher. The final musical creations can be shared with teachers and friends using a  system-generated link or a QR code.

The tutorial offers a wide array of sounds and various genre sound packs, allowing every student to find sounds they enjoy. Our commercial artist packs give students access to samples from famous songs, enabling them to create their unique takes on those tracks. Utilizing this variety of sound playbacks, samples, note patterns and drum patterns, students will be able to craft their own unique compositions, fostering an appreciation for the connection between music and technology.

In this interactive lesson, students use a block-based integrated development environment (IDE) called Music Lab to gain hands-on experience creating events, functions, and loops. They'll create unique sequences and sound combinations, compose songs, and perform live music, all while developing foundational coding skills.
