For the 9th year running, CoderDojo Belgium is organizing “CoderDojo4Girlz”, an event specially dedicated to girls and young women in Belgium. With this event, we aim to promote the learning of programming among young women, guiding them towards STEM subjects and future careers in IT.
During the event, the girls will have the opportunity to be coached by other women working in the IT world, with whom they can learn the basics of programming as well as talk about their professions and career paths. CoderDojo4Girlz aims to introduce girls to the logic of computing, by introducing them to various technologies in a fun way. The aim of CoderDojo4Girlz is to create a “safe space” dedicated to exchange and learning.
Like all CoderDojo Belgium activities, this event is entirely free of charge, so we're hoping to make it more accessible and enable maximum female participation. Following the event, girls will be invited to join local CoderDojo clubs to continue their activities.
The event will be held simultaneously in Liège on the EVS premises and in Flanders on the KULeuven campus. Another special feature of our event is that it will be held in two different languages: Dutch and French. We're hoping for around 100 participants.
During the day, we've planned a number of different technologies to interest young women: Scratch, Scratch Jr, Python, micro:bit, M:bot, Blockly, LEGO Spike, Neopixels, etc...
