Code Breaking Community Event - West Berkshire Library

DIGIT

Description The event will teach children some fundamentals of code breaking using PigPen codes. They will code their micro:bit with the PigPen key learning about sequence and selection. PigPen codes will be hidden around the library, positioned in books of historical interest around inspirational women in computing and space/STEM.

The goals of the event are to highlight the impact of women in computing and to develop computational thinking skills to enable the children to code and then explore - to be digitally active.

The target group for this activity are 10 and 11 year olds to aid with transition between primary and secondary school.

The event will be special as it will enable children and families to connect form different schools and potentially make friends for their new secondary destinations whilst learning about coding.

The library and the charity are working together to share this opportunity to the wider community.
