Minecraft Coding Club
What content does the event teach?
- Coding, specifically the skills of sequencing, repetition, logic and variables
- Computational Thinking (perseverance, debugging, logic, collaboration)
Which methods and resources are used to convey this content to the participants?
- Pupils will use the school’s existing chromebooks to access the Minecraft Education app.
- Pupils will use a mixture of the built-in existing tutorials as well as expert modelling and support from their specialist computing teacher.
What are the goals of the event?
- Increase engagement in programming
- Develop coding skills and therefore attainment
- Increase enthusiasm and experiences of vulnerable children
Which target group are you addressing with your event?
- girls, PPG, SEN, ethnic minorities and pupils who have relocated with refugee status
What makes your event special for the target group?
- This event through the medium of Minecraft will help to engage groups of pupils who are not typically accessing existing provision offered through computing and coding.
- Minecraft Education is a low risk resource with high engagement opportunities
Is there any other relevant information for the target group, e.g. about registration?
- 21 pupils across the three year groups are on the PPG register
- 36 pupils across the three year groups are on the SEND register
- 48 pupils across the three year groups have English as an additional language
- The club will be free and repeated so that additional pupils can access this event
