TinkerCad 3D modelling

Gunton Primary Academy

Description This event will be based around using the TinkerCad software to make 3D models, for which I will print off on my 3D printer when finished. The event will be discussing how different sections of the model will interact with each other part, brainstorming ideas for what to make and the ways in which they can make it. It will also be introducing the ways in with 3D printing is limited, in that something cannot be printed in the air, there for the object cannot have large overhangs otherwise the model will be warped. The event will take place after school for 4 weeks using my Coding Club timeslot. Through our club, children in KS2 are allowed to apply, and if there were to be too many children applying, we would prioritize children who receive the Pupil Premium Grant (low income funding) and those with SEND needs. Currently, there are 19 children attending with 3 with SEND needs and 7 with PPG funding. The goals of the club are to get children interested in 3D modelling and the artistic side of using computers, as some children are not as good when it comes to the technical side of using computers, but may be able to make phonemical works of art. The club will also start by talking about the many varying jobs you can get while being a 3D modeler. I wanted to pursue this event because there are children within our school that struggle academically when it comes to reading, writing and numbers, but when it comes to 3d modeling, a lot of that essentially doesn't matter and they can hopefully pursue it unhindered by these. Additionally, Lowestoft is not a technological hub in any shape, so my overall goal as a teacher is to get children interested in STEM and computing technology in general, as this is something I have always been passionate about. A further goal is to liaise with local high schools as well and foster larger scale projects with them.
