Meet and Code Awards 2024: Honoring Europe’s Digital Education Champions

And the winners are… 2024 Meet and Code Awards Champions Revealed!

After a whirlwind of creativity, coding, and game-changing ideas, we’re excited to spotlight the non-profit organizations (NPOs) across Europe that are breaking barriers and making tech accessible to young learners everywhere. These champions of digital education didn’t just think outside the box—they coded, built, and innovated their way right past it.

Putting the spotlight on Innovation
The Meet and Code Awards celebrate the creativity and innovation of NPOs through three categories that empower social and economic development in Europe. These initiatives align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), aiming to address the pressing challenges of our time.

  • Diversity: Promoting inclusivity in digital education and empowering underrepresented communities (SDG 10: Reduced inequalities)
  • Girls Do IT!: Encouraging young girls to explore technology and bridge the gender gap in STEM (SDG 5: Gender equality)
  • Code for the Planet: Using technology to address environmental challenges and promote sustainability (SDG 13: Climate action)
Each finalist showcased how digital skills can inspire social good, spark innovation and create lasting change across Europe. Here are the standout winners:

Diversity Winner: Sorora e.V. (Germany) - Level Up Against Discrimination: Creative Game Jam

Imagine fighting discrimination with the power of pixels. That’s exactly what Sorora e.V. did. This initiative used game development as a tool to tackle discrimination and exclusion. Participants, many from migrant backgrounds and FLINTA* communities, designed video games exploring themes of inclusion, equality, and cultural diversity. Through hands-on workshops and mentorship, they gained technical skills while promoting social change and community-building.

Girls Do IT! Winner: ArchitectsPL Foundation (Poland) - Girl Power – Robotic Rope Pulling

What do you get when you mix robotics, a tug-of-war tournament, and a whole lot of girl power? An epic event where young girls learned the ropes (literally) of mechanics, coding, and engineering by building and programming BaseBot robots. Who knew STEM could be this much fun?

Code for the Planet Winner: Associazione L'aquilone – Impresa Sociale (Italy) - My ECO-Future City

Welcome to the cities of tomorrow! Participants in this project designed eco-friendly urban spaces, blending tech with sustainability. From creating virtual models of green homes to building physical prototypes from recycled materials, they explored how coding can help us imagine (and build) a better, greener world.

A huge shoutout to all the event organizers for their dedication and creativity in shaping the digital future. Stay tuned for more inspiring stories and updates from Meet and Code!
Congratulations to all the winners and participants of the 2024 edition of Meet and Code! Your passion and innovation are helping build a brighter digital world for everyone.
We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible NPOs and our partners, Amazon Future Engineer, TechSoup, and Haus des Stiftens, for making this all possible.
