Description
Hello Ruby: Adventures in Coding book is an interesting way to learn about computers, technology and programming. It is half picture book and half activity book full of exciting coding tasks, ideal for young learners, especially girls. It introduces programming without requiring a computer at all. The point of the book isn’t to teach kids a programming language but introduces the fundamentals of computational thinking that every future kid coder will need.
During the Adventures with Ruby project, pupils will meet Ruby, a little girl who makes friends with Snow Leopard and Penguins while solving problems, learn how to break big problems into small problems, look for patterns, create step-by-step plans, and think outside the box. Each chapter is a small story in Ruby’s world, nine small lessons in computational thinking. Apart from unplugged coding activities, we will also work with programmable floor robots and make Hello Ruby mats for these floor robots. We will also make Adventures with Ruby board games to further practice basic programming concepts. We will invite a STEM professional to talk about the importance of this field, too.
