Description
Jam coding will provide workshops over two days for our KS2 children focused around our underserved and underrepresented children exploring programming using Micro:bits.
We intend to offer this to our KS2 classes to engage Pupil Premium and SEND children who may otherwise not be able to access such an experience. The number of SEND and PP ranges between 10-25% in our KS2 classes.
In addition to this, we hope to engage our EAL children through the universal language of programming and engaging experience. We have a diverse community and EAL children range from 20-60% in our KS2 classes.
We aim to:
Develop Problem-Solving and Coding Skills: Empower children to think creatively and logically by solving problems through programming.
Provide Access to Hands-On Learning: Allow children to use micro-bits
as physical devices to interact with code.
Build Confidence in Technology: Encourage children to see technology as something they can control and create with, rather than something that’s inaccessible.
Jam Coding synopsis for this course:
At Jam Coding, our goal is to help improve children’s digital skills . This Micro:bits programming workshop will teach children how to code and develop their computational thinking throughout the course of the workshops. Learners will make magic with their code! They will WOW their friends with the Hide and Seek Hack, Magic Speed Reaction Tests, and Magic Morse Code. This workshop uses visual coding skills along with physical computing teamwork and circuits to make magic tricks come to life using a micro:bit.”
By using Jam Coding we are able to access their technology and expert Code Coaches. They will be holding a celebration at the end of the sessions where children are able to explore their peers work and will be given a certificate for their participation.
