Cromar Future Group is a small science education charity run by volunteers in the NE of Scotland. We run 3 school science clubs, an annual science Festival, winter adult talks, and an electronics & coding club.
Braemar Primary School is one of the remotest schools in the North East, nestling among the Scottish mountains. It has no expertise in coding and no support to develop this. We do this event on the basis of “teacher learns too”, so that we leave behind a kernel of expertise.
We will take in extra laptops with off-line Scratch to ensure all children get hands-on coding experience. We shall introduce older children to Scratch, followed by a session, where they will develop an algorithm and program our Rover robots to “race” around a course with stops along the way. Although not part of your age range, we shall also run a simple robot-coding session for younger children to make this a "whole school" Festival over two separate mornings.
We shall follow this up with regular weekly Scratch sessions up to Christmas, to encourage them to take part in Aberdeenshire’s Gamescon competition and we will coach them through the process.
