Entry into Robotics with the MOVE mini MK2 buggy kit: After School Club

St Francis CE Primary School

Description The event will focus on inspiring a dynamic entry into robotics with the MOVE mini MK2 buggy kit, designed for the BBC micro:bit.

The objective is to develop girls’ independence so they have a passion for computing and gain self-confidence and belief by providing onsite weekly 60 minute after school club sessions for 6 weeks solely for girls aged between 8 and 11, focusing on coding and application through micro:bits. In addition to focusing on the achievement of girls, the aim is to promote and strengthen team building, communication skills and problem solving which are imperative for the children in school. The aim is to celebrate the girls' achievements in these sessions by culminating a showcase of work which can be shared with peers and teachers.

By supporting the Design and Technology curriculum at Key Stage 2, the kit offers practical applications of programming and control. It encourages problem-solving and creative thinking through projects that range from autonomous movement to Bluetooth-controlled operations.
It fosters understanding of mechanical and electronic principles.

Due to our school demographic and catchment area, there are a number of Pupil Premium children (defined as being from low-income families) who will have an opportunity to access both hardware and software that they would otherwise not be able to access at home.

The event will be shared with parents via our Seesaw communications app, school website and newsletter and in person celebration sessions. Success of the club will be shared with the whole school.
