Computing access for SEND children

Friends of Truro Learning Academy

Description As a school, we have a high, and even increasing, proportion of children with additional needs who need to access their learning in different ways. This event will teach these children some of the basics of coding a device to achieve a particular goal. The children will code the Beebots to travel on a given route to a pre-determined location. As well as improving their coding skills, this event will also support the development of their positional language, their problem-solving and reasoning skills and their teamwork. They will then be able to use these skills in their future learning to access other curriculum content in a hands-on, multi-sensory way.

Goals:

* Expose children with profound SEND needs to the basics of coding.
* To enable these children to complete cross-curricular learning (primarily computing, geography and maths) in a multi-sensory way to better meet their diverse needs.
* Deliver programming proficiency to all groups, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.
