Coding Club

Brimsham Green School

Description Event Description:
Our Coding Club will provide students with an engaging and hands-on introduction to programming using mBot, Microbit, and Python. This club is designed to foster a love for coding and technology by allowing students to see the immediate results of their programming efforts through interactive projects.

Content and Methods:
MBot Programming: Students will learn to program mBot robots using block-based coding. They'll explore basic robotics concepts, including movement, sensors, and simple algorithms.
Microbit
Programming: Participants will delve into Micro
projects, learning to program the small, versatile microcontroller to perform various tasks such as displaying messages, creating games, and using sensors.
Python Programming: As students become more comfortable with coding, they'll transition to Python, a powerful yet accessible text-based programming language. Projects will include creating simple games, automating tasks, and exploring data analysis.

Methods and Resources:
Hands-on Projects: Each session will involve practical projects where students can apply their learning immediately.
Interactive Tutorials: Step-by-step tutorials and guided exercises will help students grasp new concepts.
Collaboration and Problem-Solving: Students will work together on projects, fostering teamwork and collaborative problem-solving skills.
Online Resources: Access to online coding platforms and resources will be provided for practice outside of club hours.

Goals of the Event:
To introduce students to the basics of programming and robotics.
To develop problem-solving and logical thinking skills.
To inspire a long-term interest in technology and STEM fields.
To provide a supportive and collaborative learning environment.

Target Group:
The event is aimed at students aged 13-14(Y9) with little coding experience. We particularly encourage those who are curious about technology and to boost intake for GCSE computer Science

What Makes This Event Special:
Hands-On Learning: Students will see their code come to life through interactive and tangible projects.
Progressive Learning Path: Starting with block-based coding and advancing to text-based Python programming ensures accessibility and growth.
Supportive Environment: The club is designed to be inclusive and supportive, with a focus on fostering confidence and creativity in each participant.
Schedule: The specific day and time will be determined based on the instructor's timetable.
