Description
What content does the event teach?

- Computational Thinking (perseverance, debugging, logic, collaboration)
Which methods and resources are used to convey this content to the participants?
- Pupils will use the facilitator’s tablets and lego education kits.
- Pupils will access scaffolded learning opportunities and greater design projects led by the expert facilitator
What are the goals of the event?
- Increase engagement in programming and STEM
- Develop coding skills and therefore attainment
- Increase enthusiasm and experiences of vulnerable children
Which target group are you addressing with your event?
- This whole-day event will be accessible to all 60 pupils in Year 6 but specifically to help engage the 13 pupils with special educational needs; 8 pupils on the PPG register and 13 pupils who have English as an additional language (of which some have relocated due to the Ukraine war or refugee status)
What makes your event special for the target group?
- Although pupils will have accessed coding lessons through their curriculum, the majority of these pupils will not have accessed a high-quality educational experience as this. Just before moving to secondary school, it is the perfect opportunity to enhance and engage these pupils in coding, technology and STEM to have longer lasting impact.
Is there any other relevant information for the target group, e.g. about registration?
- There are some pupils with high needs in this group who will be supported further through 1:1 adults; social stories and high-quality teaching to allow them to access this opportunity.
