Introduction to Physical Computing

Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Academy

Description I would like to teach a physical computing course as an introduction for under represented students in KS3. I work in an inner city school with a very high level of deprivation (over 60% deprived) and 50% of student are from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Out students are enthusiastic (and parents supportive) of programming however we don't have the budget to teach many physical computing topics which seem to be the topics that enthuse students the most in starting their programming journey. We also don't have time within the curriculum to allow us to run this.

I would like to run a club for disadvantaged, ethnic minority, EAL students in addition to girls. These are the underrepresented areas in Computing at the moment so hopefully this club could help us to inspire them to pick Computer Science GCSE.
