On September 1st, at 11.00 CET Germany‘s Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community (BMI) including State Secretary Dr. Markus Richter for the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Hartmut Thomsen (President Middle & Eastern Europe, SAP) and Fabrizia Benini, Head of Unit Digital Economy and Skills, European Commission will virtually kick off Meet and Code 2020! Join one-hour livestream (11 a.m.-12 p.m.) to meet European nonprofits that already applied for our grants and to learn more about coding online to bring new digital skills to the younger generation.

In 2020, Meet and Code family equaled 35 countries. We can share the joy of coding and empower a generation in 10 new countries thanks to the help of the program’s newly appointed partner, Germany‘s Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community (BMI). What is more, on 1 July 2020, Germany assumed the presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU). In other words, from July to December 2020, Germany will chair the meetings of the EU Council and will be responsible for progressing EU legislation.

In the last online seminar of our series we give a short insight into the recently published
guide, which contains a broad overview over the most important issues of running online seminars. In view of the upcoming Meet and Code 2020, we will address your questions and challenges in a Q&A session to provide you with helpful information and practical examples to get started. So please share with us a question that is particularly important to you with regard to the planning and/or implementation of your online coding event. Questions and topics will then be answered directly in the online seminar.

Elisabeth Sassi
Elisabeth studied product design in Hamburg, Berlin and Copenhagen. Since 2011 she has been working as a designer in Berlin and taught Design Thinking at the d-school of the Hasso Plattner Institute for many years. Elisabeth finds her inspiration and motivation in the exchange with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Co-creative collaboration in workshops is one of her main focuses - this applies to her work with pupils and students but also in the context of large companies. Elisabeth is project lead and mentor at Junge Tüftler gGmbH since 2019.
Susanne Grunewald
Susanne combines multiple professions and life experiences in her work as a practitioner in digital learning for Junge Tüftler. As a media educator she holds the view that shared, experience-based learning with others and man-made artifacts in relation to our environment is key to a sustainable and just the future. As a mediator, she is passionate about designing communication processes that foster individual development embedded in social networks. And as a social scientist she always keeps a critical eye on societal development and the belief that the responsibility for progressive change is in our hands.

In this 1 hour webinar, our 2 special guests from the CoderDojo Foundation will share with us how to creatively code online and run a coding club, manage different types of online interactions, about safeguarding online and tools we can use to make our online coding events even better. We will learn from their 7 years in experience of leading a global movement to give children the opportunity to learn code and be creative in a safe and social environment, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion or creed.

Sonja Bienert
Sonja has a passion for creating international communities with a shared mission of educating and enabling young minds. She is the Senior Community Manager at CoderDojo, leading a team in welcoming and supporting new community members around the world.
Sonja holds a Master’s in Psychology from Georg August University in Göttingen, Germany. After living in Greece and the USA, the German native is excited to call Ireland her home. She enjoys travel, exploration, baking and baseball.
Nuala McHale
Nuala holds a First Class Honours BA from Trinity College Dublin. Nuala has worked with the CoderDojo Foundation for over three years. Prior to this position, Nuala worked for The Undergraduate Awards, where she recognised the benefits of intercultural learning. Nuala has volunteered with Suas, VDP and in Guatemala with EIL Ireland in an education and marketing capacity. She continues to volunteer with EIL Ireland and Friends of the Earth Ireland along with mentoring at her nearest Dojo. Outside of CoderDojo, Nuala enjoys attending theatre and comedy shows, current affairs and assisting with the running of her family’s farm.

Interactive workshop around AI , led by Nvias (Czech Republic), 16:00 – 20:00 CEST
AI workshop uncovers the potential of artificial intelligence in the form of project based teaching, summarizes the basic knowledge of modern technologies using AI, explains the principles of functioning of three areas of machine learning – vision, speech and understanding. The practical part of the workshop includes working with tools using artificial intelligence and building an AI startup company.
We can dedicate the topic of AI Discovery to specific SDG. That means we will motivate students to invent startups which will use AI to address specific SDG, like climate actions, sustainable cities, reduced inequalities, etc.
