Lego Robotics Group

Lapwing Education

Beschrijving Lapwing Education was founded in 2010 as an alternative education provider focused on delivering bespoke 1:1, 2:1 and small group provision to young people with complex additional needs.

Lapwing’s mission is to deliver outstanding education and support which will positively impact the life chances of the hardest to reach young people across East Anglia.

Our ethos is to put a young person’s needs, interests and aspirations at the heart of the work we do. We are committed to the holistic development of young people so they can thrive personally and professionally.

The field of robotics and computing is rapidly expanding and is an area of interest for many students. One of Lapwing's small groups (continuing in Sept) is a weekly robotics and computing group that uses Lego Spike Prime robots to introduce students to the world of robotics and computing. The robotics group meets once a week for 3 hours. Students use Lego Spike Prime robot kits, which to build and program their robot.

This provides students with a fun and interactive way to explore the world of robotics and computing. Through building and programming robots, students will develop their problem-solving and teamwork skills.

The main objectives of the robotics and computing group are:

• To introduce students to the basic concepts of robotics and computing using Lego Spike Prime robots.
• To encourage creativity and problem-solving skills through building and programming robots.
• To provide a platform for students to explore the world of robotics and computing in a fun and interactive way.
• To foster teamwork and collaboration among the students.

The group engages in a range of activities designed to develop their robotics and computing skills. These activities include:

• Building a variety of robots using the Lego Spike Prime kit.
• Learning how to program the robots using Scratch programming language.
• Engaging in robot races and challenges to test their programming skills.
• Collaborating with other students to build and program robots for specific tasks.
• Experimenting with sensors and other components to enhance their robots' functionality.

The robotics group is assessed based on the following criteria:

• The quality of their robot builds and programming.
• Their participation and engagement in the group activities.
• Their teamwork and collaboration skills.
• Their ability to troubleshoot and solve problems related to robotics and computing.
